Background
Dr Marta Martí Puente is a specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology and dedicates her practice to hand surgery, wrist surgery, microsurgery and upper limb reconstruction. Her career combines a solid academic background, hospital experience in Spain and the United Kingdom, scientific activity and continuing education aimed at providing precise, up-to-date and specialised care.
She graduated in Medicine from the University of Navarra and completed her residency in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at Hospital San Pedro, Logroño. Over time, her interest turned increasingly towards the hand and the upper limb, with postgraduate training in surgical anatomy applied to reconstructive surgery and in microsurgical technique.
International experience
A significant part of her career was spent in the United Kingdom, in reference units for plastic surgery, burns and hand surgery. She was a Fellow in the Hand Unit at St Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns (Chelmsford) with Mr Fortune Iwuagwu, and a Registrar in its Burns Unit and in Plastic Surgery. Before that she held Senior House Officer posts in Plastic Surgery and in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at Broomfield Hospital, and completed a placement as Senior Hand Fellow at University College London Hospital.
Her training was completed with rotations at Ganga Hospital (India), a world reference centre for hand surgery and replantation; at The Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby; at the Spine Unit of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore; at Institut Kaplan in Barcelona; and in the paediatric trauma department at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.
Current practice
She is currently a member of the Hand Surgery and Replantation team at Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí, a hand surgeon at Egarsat, and she collaborates with Centre Mèdic AXA in Barcelona. Between 2020 and 2024 she was a hand surgeon in the Hand and Upper Limb Surgery Unit at Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya. She holds private consultations at Hospital El Pilar (Barcelona), at Centre Mèdic AXA and at the Àptima centres in Sabadell and Terrassa.
Way of working
In consultation she prioritises listening carefully, examining thoroughly and explaining clearly. Each treatment plan is adapted to the person, their activity and their expectations. Surgery is proposed when indicated, after considering conservative alternatives, and is always accompanied by a recovery and follow-up plan. She sees patients in Spanish, Catalan, English and French.
