How the consultation works

The first visit is dedicated to understanding the problem: when it started, what triggers it, how it affects your work or activity, and what treatments you have tried. The hand and wrist are then examined in detail and any existing tests are reviewed. In many cases the diagnosis is established at that same visit; if additional tests are needed, such as an X-ray, ultrasound, MRI or nerve conduction study, they are requested at that point.

Once the diagnosis is clear, the treatment options are explained, starting with conservative ones where they exist. If surgery is indicated, what it involves, the type of anaesthesia, the expected recovery and the risks are detailed, so that you can make an informed decision.
